2 weeks post surgery (5 teeth removed, jaw bone shaved down, nerve removed) I am still experiencing pain in my jaw and surrounding area. Still taking Roxicet pretty much every 4 hours over the last 2 weeks.

Does this seem normal to you? My follow-up is next Thursday, but I did not expect to be discussing pain treatment... More talk on recovery.

Any other 'jaw' patients have similar lasting pain??

Yes, jaw pain can last quite a while after a procedure. There are 5 major nerves going across your face almost like a hand. If anything was done near one of those nerves, it can cause swelling which puts pressure on the nerves. At least thats how it was explained to me in very basic terms.

One pain that I have found that can be excruciating is when a teeny tiny shard from having an extraction is trying to make its way thru the gumline. To me that has been some of the worst pain Ive experienced.

Think about exactly where the pain is and if you consider it to be maybe a nerve which has been hurting. If you think its nerve pain, I would try neurontin. Ask for your doc for a prescription. It does come in liquid form (needs refrigeration too). The neurontin worked great for me when I had my mandibulectomy and had extreme pain. I would take it along with my other pain meds.

Best wishes!

Chris, just have to say that the surgery sounds to me like it would most definitely be painful 2 weeks out! PLease don't wait a week to talk to your doc about the pain if it's not controlled. They make a best guess but pain control is very individual, not all drugs work the same on all people, and you'll heal faster if your pain is soothed.

p.s., just figured out your "Beat Bama" sig is not necessarily political. Have no idea what a Hokie is but I'm thinking sports?
