I can eat, slowly and most times with liquids, just about anything. I still can't eat potato chips and dry stuff like that (and bread)... I had a hankerin' for some apple pie, so I started eating it and it tasted pretty good, but about half-way through finishing it, my taste buds gave out and it had almost no taste. I finished it anyway (with lots of Milk). Some things taste good, some things have no taste, or at least not like it should. But Hey I am Eating!! ( I even ate 1/2 of a steak, but it took a while to chew and I did have to have it pretty rare, which is how I like them anyway). Still trying different foods, I peeled a red apple and still could barely eat it because the bites just turned to dry pulp in my mouth, apple sauce, no problem.
By the by, Jan 19 will by my 3 month wait, and I hope to get the insurance to authorize my PET scan.
Please keep me in your prayers.
And, don't give up, those that are starting or in treatment, keep swallowing at least one drink of water every day.

I eat to a point, and then my taste buds just go flat, I guess from being overloaded. Glad you are eating a variety of foods, and good luck with the PET.

Keep up the good progress!

Today i still only have about 60% of my saliva production. If i eat anything cold i immediatly lose all taste, spicy things are still pretty hard to handell, but itis a whole lot better than at first! It seemed the 1st 6months were the worst but constantly improved from that point on, i still have some trouuble swallowing but so much better than before. The way i got through the tough times was to think about the good things that came out of it. At start i weighed 260 bs got down to 160 by the end of treatment, No longer had to shave for first 4-5 yrs,now only have to trim around a natural gotee. The hair quit growing in my ears and after 15 yrs there is still very little. Keep your head up and youll do fine! Ron Cark | | |
