Julieann Nov 2007 SCC on right tonsil following tonsillectomy. Was smoker, QUIT. (Stage IV T2 N2b) 7 weeks radiation one day/wk chemo (carboplatin and 5-FU). Allergic to Taxol; PEG in, lost 30 lbs. TX completed January 2008. PEG out mid- 2008. Joined: Jun 2007 Posts: 5,260 | Hi my best of friends. Well I got thru the 1st nite but without any pleasure. I had to make a few trips to the bathroom and had to change clothes each time. My stomach had better get used to that stuff very soon as in today. My future son in law came at 9:15 and unhooked me so now I have until 5:30 to shower, go shopping for food I can handle and a few things I want to do. The it's back to the IV rig until tomorrow. It beats laying in the Hospital waiting for things to occur. I will make it thru and be fine. At least that's my gut feeling. I hope all of you are doing fine and smiling. Luv Ya all.

Since posting this. UPMC, Pittsburgh, Oct 2011 until Jan. I averaged about 2 to 3 surgeries a week there. w Can't have jaw made as bone is deteroriating steaily that is left in jaw. Mersa is to blame. Feeding tube . Had trach for 4mos. Got it out April.

Female, nonsmoker, 70, diag. 5/09 after tongue biopsy: stage IV. Left hemi-gloss. and left selec. neck disec. 30 lymph nodes removed May 20. Over 7 weeks daily rads. with three chemo. PEG removed 12/4/09 Am eating mostly soft foods. Back to work 11/09 Retired 4/1/11. 7 clear scans! Port out 9/11. 2/13. It's back: base of tongue, very invasive
surgery involving lifestyle changes. 2/14: Now speaking w/Passey-Muir valve. Considering a swallow study. Grateful to be alive.

You always were a "gutsy" man, so we have all the confidence in the world you will breeze through your upcoming surgery and be corresponding with us more and more. Have your son fix that laptop so you can write to us from the hospital next time. We all anxiety await your posts.
