Joined: May 2002 Posts: 2,152 | Well, I'm off to the slaughter house at the crack of dawn tomorrow. Not looking forward to this 10+ hour ordeal at all. The trick will be to keep my BP below 200 so they can do the surgery. I do wish they would take you the night before when they want you there at 5:30 am.
I am not the robust patient I was the previous two times I hit the table for this surgery so not certain how fast I will recupe from this one. I'm just praying they don't have to take an artery from my arm, but I doubt that I'm going to be that lucky again.

Good luck tomorrow! I pray the surgery goes well and you will be up and about ASAP!
I agree that they should admit you the night before for an early morning surgery -- I think years ago they did that! For the surgery I had in April, I had to be at Johns Hopkins by 5:30 AM and it was a 3 hour drive from where I live. We decided to just drive down that day because I know I wouldn't be able to sleep if we went down the day before. So I drove down and my husband drove home later that day!
I sure hope that this will be your last surgery! Please post an update when you can.

History Leukoplakia bx 8/2006 SCC floor mouth T3N0M0- Verrucous Carcinoma.
14 hour 0p SCC-Right ND/excision/marginal mandibulectomy 9/2006, 4 teeth removed, flap from wrist, trach-ng 6 days- no chemo/rad.
6 ops and debulking (flap/tongue join) + bx's 2006-2012.
bx Jan 2012 Hyperkeratosis-Epithelial Dysplasia
24cm GIST tumour removed 8/2013. Indefinite Oral Chemo.

Ex-spouse MISDIAGNOSED with SCC-HN IVa 12/10. Tonsils out 1/11. 4 teeth out 2/11. TX Erbitux x2, IMRT x2 2/11. 2nd opinion-benign BCC-NOT CANCER 3/11. TX stopped 3/11. New doctors 4/11. Jun 07, back to riding my bike 100 miles a wk. Now doing 12 Spin classes and 60 outdoor miles per wk. Nov 13 completed Hilly Century ride for Cancer, 104 miles, 1st Place in my age group. Apr 2014 & 15, Spun for 9 straight hrs to raise $$ for YMCA's Livestrong Program. Certified Spin Instructor Jun 2014.
