Brian has had 2 chemo treatments of Cisplatin and is scheduled for his last chemo treatment next week.

After the first Chemo treatment of Cisplatin, a hearing test was done and there was some permament hearing loss. He then had his second Chemo treatment and there has been more hearing loss, almost 50db.

Thank you to Christine, from this Forum, that informed me that hearing loss is unacceptable. Our ENT dr. agreed and has spoken to our onocologist and they are planning to change the chemo drug to Cetuximab. We are meeting with the onocologist on Monday to find out the details.

Gianna, your welcome, Im glad I could help. Thanks for coming back to give us an update. Im sorry about your husbands hearing loss. Poor guy!

Im very happy that you spoke up and got this taken care of before he got another dose. Not just that but thanks to you, other patients wont have hearing loss like your husband did.

Gianna,

Also understand, opiate pain medication can cause hearing loss as well, especially if taken long term. I got the double whammy with the 3 doses of cisplatin and long term opiate use. I'm very hard of hearing especially if there is background noise...pisses me off but can come in handy when I really "don't" want to listen laugh

Good luck

Eric

That might explain Matt's hearing of late... he's had several doses of Cisplatin and has been taking opiates for the last six weeks or so. It doesn't bother him as much, but it sure makes me testy. I'll have to remember this and not be so snippy when I repeat myself.
