For past 6 months i have been putting off having this lump sensation in right neck check out. I have been a heavy smoker for the last 20 years. Yesterday i got the results of the MRI of my neck. 2cm abnormal mass of right base of tongue and 2.5cm mass right lymph node. I am a Registered Nurse so i kinda now that cancer is going to be the diagnosis. I know i shouldn't jump to conclusions until i have my biopsy, but cant help to see the cancer diagnosis smacking me in the face.

Going to see ENT surgeon on Monday and get this diagnosis going. I am ready to fight n just want to get active in forums. gonna spend the day researching and reading stories of people on here.

Hello Jmeeker:
So sorry if you do have cancer, but you will hear that it's not cancer until the biopsy proves it to be. That's hard to digest, I know because I freak every time I have a PET/CT scan, but it's true. So, let's hope and pray that it's not. You will be getting a lot of advice from the Forum members - they are GREAT, and glad you found us. Prayers heading your way.

So glad you went and had it checked out. Hopefully, it will not be cancer and you can do what you need to fix it. If it is cancer, then, like you said, get on with the fight. You have definitely found a wonderful place here for support, answers and caring people. Best of luck and lots of prayers for your upcoming ENT visit.

Welcome to OCF! I hope you will not have to be a part of this forum! Glad to hear you are already set up with an ENT. If things do turn out to be cancer, please go to a large cancer facility for your treatments. Also, getting a second opinion is a great plan too! IF and I am saying IF it is cancer then you will want to round up all your friends and relatives to help you. Make a list with everyone's names and numbers and let them know you will call them if you need help. Its a good idea to try to eat all your favorites right now too. If you are sick then you will have a change in your eating habits.

I hope you will take this opportunity to quit smoking! This may just be a warning at this time, you may not get another one. I am a former smoker and one day on my way for a test I got angry that I was stupid enough to smoke and what it did to me. I threw those cigs right out the window and never smoked again. If I can quit so can you, its a mind over cigs issue and you can do it!!!

Get an opinion from the nearest comprehensive cancer center before you decide on your Tx.
