Hi,

Please check out this article published in "Medscape Today".

Pioglitazone Shows Promise for Oral Cancer Prevention

The link above may bring you to a page to register to Medscape. To avoid that, just search the article title above in google and it will bring right there.

This is the first time I have seen anything that could prevent dysplasia from turning into SCC.

Personally, I have been battling this for over 10 years with dysplasia coming back every year after being removed. Three times it turned into cancer. My most recent surgery removed the SCC from my gums, and also there was a part on the top of my tongue with severe dysplasia that was removed, just above where my flap connects to the tongue. Dysplasia in the form of white patches and red lesions just keep coming back on my tongue, and around my gums. So I have no doubt I have not seen the last of it.

Those with dysplasia or Leukoplakia might want to look up the doctors involved with this study (mentioned in the article) as they are doing more clinical trials. This study is just preliminary, but does bring some hope to the table.

All the best!

Thanks for thinking of the group, but OCF doesn't miss much on our RSS free oral cancer news feed. This story was put up a couple of days ago. Check it out

The feed is free, but even if you don't subscribe you should check the main web site a couple times a week for new stories about oral cancer - science, human interest, we have it all from publications all over the world.

Thanks Brian,
Leukoplakia lesions, which are usually caused by irritation has been my problem since the initial operation in 2006.
My last biospy was only a few weeks ago and one part of report says "The epithelium shows hyperkeratosis, irregular acanthosis with elongated rete ridges and mild basal cell hyperplasia."
Good news was no evidence of malignancy and Diagnosis was
TIP OF THE TONGUE: CHRONIC HYPERPLASTIC CANDIDIASIS.
I will forward your link to my oral surgeon however he has not answered emails in the past frown

I thought it would be an easy way for all of you that contribute so much from so far away to be acknowledged. Let me or one of the other admins know if I left someone out. I tried to remember most, but I likely missed a few.

So it looks like a few anti-fungals are in your future.... hyperplastic tissues are nothing to be concerned about. people get them from all kinds of reasons. Good news.
