Joined: Jun 2007 Posts: 5,260 | I was really impressed with the ENT at UPMC today as was my daughter. He thinks I can wait awhile yet but wants to lower my stomache back into the area it came from. He alos let me know that the saliva can eat thru a portion of the jawbone, eat thru the flesh under it and thru to my neck area. Then the saliva will drain thru that hole thru my chin and drain down my neck. He wants to lower my stomache and insert the feeding tube to be prepared for when the bone has to be removed, which he doesn't think will be very far away in time. He would use my shoulder blade to make a jaw. He wants to do this because he wants me to be well nourished when he removes my jaw and try to fatten me up a little. He wants me to think about this and I go back the 23rd of May to meet with him and discuss the whole procedure. This young ENT is very impressive and very knowledgble. Thanks for anybutt kicking I needed all of you.
Since posting this. UPMC, Pittsburgh, Oct 2011 until Jan. I averaged about 2 to 3 surgeries a week there. w Can't have jaw made as bone is deteroriating steaily that is left in jaw. Mersa is to blame. Feeding tube . Had trach for 4mos. Got it out April.

Age 58 at Dx, HPV16+ SCC, Stage IV BOT+2 nodes, non smoker, casual drinker, exercise nut, Cisplatin x 3 & concurrent IMRT x 35,(70 Gy), no surgery, no Peg, Tx at Moffitt over Aug 06. Jun 07, back to riding my bike 100 miles a wk. Now doing 12 Spin classes and 60 outdoor miles per wk. Nov 13 completed Hilly Century ride for Cancer, 104 miles, 1st Place in my age group. Apr 2014 & 15, Spun for 9 straight hrs to raise $$ for YMCA's Livestrong Program. Certified Spin Instructor Jun 2014.

Marginal mandibulectomy 6/17/08 resulted in DX of Stage I SCC - gingiva (3 mm) right mandible, buccal side. Clear margins. Occasional social drinker. Smoked last cigarette in 1979. Clear pet: 12/08; 7/20/09. Yay!

08/01/2010 CT Scan-ALL CLEAR
03/03/2010-Peg removed
01/2013 left side of Jaw removed and replaced with pectoral flap.
23/12/2020 scan show lesion in tongue
01/2021 SCC stage 3 base of tongue diagnosed
01/03/2021 chemotherapy started.
