Wow Cheryl, what you went through is almost identical to what I went through, I only had 2 out of about 10 that were good, the rest were terrible. One nurse tried to feed me through the tube and gave me way too much too early making me vomit all over myself, she was young and very rude and said that she didn't need to clean me up in case I vomit again, and the next shift could take care of me...so she left me in my puke for hours, I was helpless. I feel for ya, the phlem and the trach were the worse part with me as well. Some nurses get into this mode where they forget we are humans and show no empathy or sympathy at all. Please report the bad behaviour to Dr. Irish, or they will never change. I reported the one nurse when I was being released and could speak again, was glad to find out she got let go soon after.

Best of luck with the rest of your recovery.

So glad that you have a trache in that you can now communicate with those IDIOTS. When you feel up to it I would continue to go up higher and report all of them that did not work up to any type of standard that they should.

Hearing all of this I really think there should be some new things added into nursing training. Anyone remember Patch Adams?! Lets take care of the whole patient. We have names, feelings, fears, etc...

Absolutely - sorry for my spelling errors in previous posts - first off went for a nice walk last night with my daughter I took her for food and we went to the gift shop and pharmacy I had my feeds pole with me and looked scary but we were out for about an hour. Today they capped my trache - removed my regular feeds and are bolusing me so I am pretty mobile. The Aldo removed my final drain. I'm taking Tylenol 3 at bed time cuz I'm a little stiff! But other than that and my nasty trache - which may come out tomorrow - I am relatively comfortable - the swelling in my tongue is going down - I can swallow - but I still sound like I am talking though a mouthful of marbles!!! If the trache comes out tomorrow I may get clear liquids! Yes!!!!! I had a student nurse today which was fun - I think she was first year - learning basic care - so I only saw my regular nurse 3 times!!!! It was the one from my first day post op - the one who waited 7 hours to change a faulty foley - last nights nurse was fantastic - she did all the care she was supposed to do - so far she is the only one who has! When I am released I will definitely report to patient survices and the patient advocacy department! I just think there should be a standard in ace for the first two days you are incapacitated - if you can speak and barely breath here should be something set up and extra precaution - I know it makes for a heavy parent but nurses here get paid upwards of 35 an hour - If you are getting paid the much - be on the ball - be compassionate - and don't be frigging lazy! They just don't listen here !! Hope you all are doing well !!!!!
