I did not what area to post this in. As most of you know I had surgery to remove jaw and some tissue. They rebuilt my jaw with bone from leg. The tissue I do not know were that came from. I keep feeling like something in there and could something strange. Tonight I turn my phone flash light on. It has supper bright light. I look at the surgical area and was shocked what I seen. I had hair growing in my mouth. It freaked me out some, I went and found my twizzers and start pulling them out. I see my doctor next week and going to talk to him about it. Does any one know if this is normal or not? It was strange to see it there.

My daughter just went through the fibular flap surgery for her maxilla and she has the same thing. It is common as the tissue came from your leg from the area they removed the fibula, along with the blood supply and all. Your leg had hair on it and will grow hair, you can tweeze it or have it lazered later is what we were told. Kind of weird but normal.

I had my free flap taken from my leg as well, and although I have not encountered it, I hear from others that the hair on the tongue thing does happen. Normal compared to the rest of the world?? perhaps not. Normal for us? Yup.

Get it removed - hopefully permanently.

Hugs

My sister just had a forearm free flap to her tongue and sure enough hair is on it. I Don't think she is aware of it yet but her husband noticed it and freaked. Luckily I belong to this forum and found out from everyone that this is normal. Usually after radiation they are gone if not you can get them lasered.

Very normal. I have really hairy legs naturally so it's crazy to see all the hair that grows from the flap. Personally it doesn't bother me at all but I do warn people who look into my mouth so they are prepared for it.
