Like I can not stand the taste of any cola's. They taste VERY strong almost painful. Had a fried fish we have every now and then Friday night. All I can think of is how it tasted like dirt. Never will I be able to eat that again. Is it due to the removal of the tissue they only removed about a half dollar size area just inside my lower lip? I don't remember ever having just anesthesia causing anything like this. Saw the surgeon Thurday and he was suprised that I am off all pain meds, had returned to work and how well the area has healed.

Never say never. Taste changes are not only quite common but vary tremendously at various points of TX and recovery. Even though i cannot swallow, I can still not only taste, but my taste has improved tremendously from the original cardboard/dirt taste of everything. If you haven't had any chemotherapy, which your signature doesn't indicate, it could be some of the meds you did take have affected your taste buds. Be patient, things will most likely return to 'normal' before long.

It is almost 4 weeks since surgery and my taste has already changed and I know that it will change again once the radiation starts. I suppose taste changes are the least of my concerns these days. It just seemed strange after just the surgery to have such significant changes.
