Joined: May 2009 Posts: 1,412 | I have my two week visit with my RO today. I am really nrevous about what he is going to say about this swollen lymph node I have found. Went to my PCP yesterday, and she took me off my Blood Pressure pill, but she also said that she did not like the feel of the lymph node and to make sure my RO saw it and checked it. Does the nervousness about every little knot ever go away?

Since posting this. UPMC, Pittsburgh, Oct 2011 until Jan. I averaged about 2 to 3 surgeries a week there. w Can't have jaw made as bone is deteroriating steaily that is left in jaw. Mersa is to blame. Feeding tube . Had trach for 4mos. Got it out April.

Joined: Sep 2008 Posts: 711 | I constantly find myself feeling my neck and wondering "Is that bigger than it was yesterday?". I suppose the anxiety will fade some with time but, "go away?", I don't know.

David R. 65 yr old male non-smoker, light drinker, stage 3 or 4, depending on which doc you ask, scc rt. tonsil, 2 nodes, 7 weeks radiation and chemo. No surgery. Teatment ended 3/20/08. PET scan 8/08 showed no cancer.
And now, as of oct, 2010, caregiver to wife, Linda, with breast cancer.
May, 2013, Linda diagnosed with stage 3 ovarian cancer. Enuf already.

Joined: Feb 2007 Posts: 790 | I have had the same fear and still do sometimes three years later. It gets better with time and with knowing that your neck is just stiff and knotted from all the treatments.

Joined: Jan 2009 Posts: 1,844 | I still get nervous about lumps, PET Scans etc. The PET scan I had this time last year came back hot and I had to wait another 6 months on the ENT's recommendation for another (to let healing etc) and when I got the call from one of my oldest friends (she works for my ENT) that it was clear I almost cried like a girl. To be fair, my friend was crying and the tears I shed were those of empathy...for her feelings of course. I'm just sensative like that. I'm a firm believer that there is no crying in baseball  or other manly sports, for men...that are manly....

Retired Dentist, 59 years old at diagnosis. SCC of the left lateral border of the tongue (Stage I). Partial glossectomy and 30 nodes removed, 4/6/05. Nodes all clear. No chemo no radiation 18 year survivor.

My husband is 5 year's out and we both still get nervous when he goes for his check ups. For us, I don't think that will ever change. Good luck with your appointment. Let us know what happens.

Caregiver to husband Ron. Throat Cancer. Finished 35 radiation treatments on 11/21/04. 8/2/11 small lesion on lower gum, laser Procedure to remove. 3/6/12 Doc. removed another lesion on outside of his neck. Did a skin graft from his chest to replace the skin on his neck. Went to Heaven on 6/24/12.

Age 58 at Dx, HPV16+ SCC, Stage IV BOT+2 nodes, non smoker, casual drinker, exercise nut, Cisplatin x 3 & concurrent IMRT x 35,(70 Gy), no surgery, no Peg, Tx at Moffitt over Aug 06. Jun 07, back to riding my bike 100 miles a wk. Now doing 12 Spin classes and 60 outdoor miles per wk. Nov 13 completed Hilly Century ride for Cancer, 104 miles, 1st Place in my age group. Apr 2014 & 15, Spun for 9 straight hrs to raise $$ for YMCA's Livestrong Program. Certified Spin Instructor Jun 2014.

Joined: May 2009 Posts: 1,412 | It all looks good. He said the swelling was a salivary gland and was from the radiation. He said that I am healing well, but may take a few more weeks to get somewhat back to normal. Still struggling with the mucous. He said that will soon go away and then you will get dry mouth which will not go away, but you learn to deal with it. I have a PET scan schedule for MAY. Not sure if I can wait that long. I am glad about the good news form the DR. Apparently when I had my surgery in Oct, there was still a bunch of tumor left on my tongue. According to the RO it is gone now. We will not know for sure if there is any residual stuff until PET scan. I am resting a little more easy now.
