I Finished my 35th IMRT today. Looking forward to healing up and being able to eat some solid food. I won't miss the 1-hour drive each way to the CCC, and I get my mornings back.

All in all they said things went as well as they can. I did not get the PEG but was able to maintain my weight, although on some days I wish I had it. I also developed ulcers on my tongue and that's been a big problem. But now that the treatments are done, I can look forward to some improvement as the weeks go by instead of the steady downward trend I had been on.

My goal is to be able to eat a steak by Christmas.

HURRAY for you Kelly! It is always a huge hurdle to finish that final treatment, now it is on to healing and getting more foods into you. Take care of yourself the next weeks will still be difficult. God bless.

Kelly,

Hope you aren't one but for a lot of us the 2 to 3 weeks post Tx are our worse so don't get discouraged if you don't start to feel better for a while yet. Consume a ton of calories, I did 3000 a day and still didn't gain a pound well over a year post Tx.

Hang in there and congrats on finishing the radiation.

Kelly,
Congratulations smile

Making it through, holding your weight and without a PEG.
Quite an accomplishment!

Now just hang in there for a couple more weeks and the worst should be well behind you.

Keep us updated on your progress.

Congratulations. There is alot of joy in just having control over a little more of your life - no daily treatments. Although weird to say but I missed seeing the radiation tech's. A group of fine people.

DX 2/10/09; Stage 1 SCC side of tongue; Partial Gloss; PEG in 3/3/09; 3 Cisplatin; 35 IMRT; PEG out 7/17/09; Eating via mouth and walking 3 miles/day 4 wks after treatment end. 50 pound weight loss; Clear PET 09/09 and 09/10

Thanks all, so far so good.

I am eating better and my taste is a little better. Everything is still dull tasting but I get a bigger hint of the old flavors every day. I don't know how much taste will return but I am encouraged.

The biggest news for me is that the ulcers on my tongue are now better. I had times when moving my tongue would bring tears to my eyes. They still hurt but not nearly as much, so I have started to regain some of my sanity. I was worried sick I would not get rid of that pain.

I see my ENT on Tuesday for my first follow up. I'll post again then.

Kelly,

Sounds like you are doing great. Just don't get discouraged if you don't improve as fast as you want. There is really no timetable that fits each of us so it will happen when and how it does. It is kind of safe to say that by your 24th month post Tx your taste/saliva should be as good as it will get.
