Joined: Jun 2008 Posts: 51 | I have just come from my second visit with the Maxillo Facial Clinic and have been told that they would prefer to take my teeth out one by one ie. when they become loose rather than take the lot to save me having HBO. But I am still confused. This specialist told me that if I had all my teeth removed I would not be able to get dentures, but I understood from another doctor that I could. Any ideas please.
SCC Base of tongue stage 4. 10 hour operation Radical neck dissection and hemiglossectomy 23/10/06 35 Rad treatments and 3 high dose Cistplatin Dec 06 - Feb 07. Ex casual smoker 6 to 8 a day - casual drinker. Very fit and diet conscious.

Joined: May 2007 Posts: 231 | When they took my teeth out dentures became a medical thing and not a dental thing due to the cancer. My insurance payed 100% for my dentures. I dont see why they say you cant have dentures.
Dx Mar 07 with Base Of Tongue Stage IV. IMRT 35x with 3 doses Cysplatin ran concurrent. Tx ended May 31,07. Left and right node involved. Radical neck disection 7/18/07

Joined: Jun 2008 Posts: 51 | Thanks billy, I do not have insurance, but that does not matter the reason they gave for not letting me have dentures is because of the shrinking of the gums and other problems.
