I used to need significant meds (including high blood pressure meds). After about five years I adapted and was weaned off the meds altogether. There has been no change (or meds) for over twenty years now. My kidney function still shows moderate renal failure but I am just fine
The big problem is chemo. It is hard on good kidneys and they don't like to use it if you have bad ones because it might cause total kidney failure.
Also you need to keep your weight down (probably not a problem post-OC) and you may need to limit red meat, salt, potassium and dairy but check with you doctor (Nephrologist) and Renal Dietitian because if you need hemodialysis they will want you on a different (hi-protein) diet(and you will need an AV shunt installed).
