You have to consider volume of exposure and duration. Couple that with individual genetic predispositions. If someone quits using Nyquil on the few days of the year they have the flu, I don't think that they are avoiding anything...they are only dealing with symptomology of influenza that they wouldn't have to deal with if they used it.
