I had trouble sleeping for a long time. I tended to nap for short periods of time most of the day and night. If I slept for an entire hour straight it was a major accomplishment. I had to sleep somewhat sitting up so that I wouldn't choke. I was in the hospital for a long time and used a hospital bed at home. I was thrilled the day that I "graduated" back to my own bed although still propped up with lots of pillows. Now I sleep lying flat although the dry mouth tends to wake me after a few hours. The process from where I started to where I am now took several months. Even though I couldn't swallow I did suck on a lot of ice chips (tiny amounts at a time) to keep my mouth moist. I also rinsed with a mild saltwater.
