I have been watching your posts and have not answered until now. Partly because the answers that others were giving were better than I could come up with. This post of yours touched me. I had to give you a supporting pat on the back. The idea of loosing a parent is not easy to come to grips with. The new "view" you describe is common to all who go through an event like this. Many come out better than they ever expected. Win, loose, or draw, cancer has some positive effects. Concentrate on the positives and we all come out better.

Mark, 21 Year survivor, SCC right tonsil, 3 nodes positive, one with extra-capsular spread. I never asked what stage (would have scared me anyway) Right side tonsillectomy, radical neck dissection right side, maximum radiation to both sides, no chemo, no PEG, age 40 when diagnosed.
