Kirsten,
I am so sorry to hear about your Mom's condition. Since chemo has not proven effective for H&N cancer patients as a first line treatment and she had the full amount of radiation (and not responded to it), there isn't much more that can be done. It's highly unusual that they radiated the same spot. It's sounds to me like they are being agressive as they can. You need to ask the hard questions whether the treatment is "curative" or "palliative". If you are not already at a CCC like UW, then I would recommend getting a second opinion from them.

Try to spend as much quality time with her as you can. You may wish to consider hospice care so she can be comfortable at home in a non hospital setting.
