For what it's worth, I use Ambien and have had none of the side effects that have been reported.
I don't take it regularly and never used it before my surgery. It worked wonders for me helping me get to sleep when I was in a great deal of pain. Now I use it when I travel, as I never slept well when not at home. I have found it to non-addictive and with no side effects.
I'm know there are many, many people using it and I guess the only way to find out how it affects you is to try it.
