I hope someone comes along soon who can advise you specifically.
Have you checked out the main OCF pages as I think Oral Melanomas as a cause are mentioned there.
How is your Mother being treated? Is she being seen at a Comprehensive Cancer Center - a CCC?
I would think that her treatment would be the same as many others on this site though Squamous Cell carcinoma is the primary causative agent for most.

PET 6/11 clear.
R) level 2-4 neck dissection 8/1/11 to remove residual node - necrotic with NED
Feb '12 Ca back.. 3/8/12 total glossectomy/laryngectomy/bilat neck dissection/partial pharyngectomy etc. clear margins. All nodes negative for disease. PEG in.
March 2017 - 5 years disease free. Woohoo!
