My son also had SCC Stage 2 on the right side and under his tongue. He had only 1/6 of his tongue removed and right after surgery, his doctor said the tongue would "regenerate" but I think it was more like the tongue spreads out to fit the space it is in. He had surgery and radiation (no chemo) and doing fine, now 7 years later. He did have a very rough time of it during radiation treatment and did not have a feeding tube, but I can see from all I've learned on this forum that it could have helped him get through treatment a lot better. Sometimes the feeding tube is only for a short time. Stay with us and let us know what's happening.
Anne-Marie CG to son, Paul (age 33, non-smoker) SCC Stage 2, Surgery 9/21/06, 1/6 tongue Rt.side removed, +48 lymph nodes neck. IMRTx28 completed 12/19/06. CT scan 7/8/10 Cancer-free! ("spot" on lung from scar tissue related to Pneumonia.)
