There are 5 major nerves going across your face almost like a hand. If anything was done near one of those nerves, it can cause swelling which puts pressure on the nerves. At least thats how it was explained to me in very basic terms.
One pain that I have found that can be excruciating is when a teeny tiny shard from having an extraction is trying to make its way thru the gumline. To me that has been some of the worst pain Ive experienced.
Think about exactly where the pain is and if you consider it to be maybe a nerve which has been hurting. If you think its nerve pain, I would try neurontin. Ask for your doc for a prescription. It does come in liquid form (needs refrigeration too). The neurontin worked great for me when I had my mandibulectomy and had extreme pain. I would take it along with my other pain meds.
