Hi, Jen.
When I had my excisional biopsy, they removed a piece of my tongue about the size of a garbanzo bean.
As I was walking out he front to of the Dr.'s office building, the anesthetic was wearing off.
I was in a GREAT DEAL of pain for 2 days. The tongue can do funky things when damaged, like turn white and swell up. I would think that since you had so many areas biopsied, you would be in more pain than I was.
Please don't hesitate to call your doctor, even over the weekend with any concerns. You should also have your pain being managed better than it is. Don't be afraid to ask for stronger medication. Most of these docs haven't had the pleasure of having half of what we patients have been through. Not that they must and not that it doesn't make them less empathetic or compassionate, but it's true. Chances are, they haven't felt that kind of pain.
Some doctors won't prescribe narcotics to patients over the weekends since you have to now get a hard copy script in your hands and most things can no longer be called into the pharmacy. If this is the case, don't hesitate to go to the urgent care center or emergency room if your pain is out of control.
As for the pustules, I'm not sure if that's really an infection. Usually, it takes a good 5-7 days for an infection to get rolling. So if it's been that long, then it could be infected. If it hasn't been that long, it's more likely due to inflammation and the strange things that your tongue can do when it's traumatized.
All of this being said, I sincerely hope that these biopsies turn out fine and that this will be the end of it.
Feel better and please keep us posted.
Love in OCF,
Kerri
