Well, we are out 3 1/2 weeks now from the end of tx. Kevin is eating quite a bit, soft foods and chicken mainly. He is feeling pretty well. He even has sweet and salt taste back already. Still dealing with the phlegm issue on and off.The docs say that with what they hit him with he should be just awful. His radiation was pretty extreme. He got very bad burns on the outside of his neck. They are almost healed. We are down to just 2 spots now where it was from the back of his neck to almost under his chin and about 2 1/2 inches wide. UGLY!! The docs said they have never seen anyone do as well as we have done!! Super encouraging. He is still in pain of course. Still taking the Lortab which is beginning to bother him because he was hoping to be off it soon. The plan is to go back to work on Jan 5th, which means flying to Alaska on the 3rd. Long flight from NY. Makes me pretty nervous, but I know he wants to do it, and for morale sake needs to do it. He will only work 2 weeks instead of 3 this trip.
Follow up high contrast CT on the 20th of December, and a sedated nasal/throat scope on the 6th. Then at the end of January we will have a follow up PET. Sure is nervewracking at this point. Trying to learn how to relax and just live as normal as possible. Definitely the new normal!!
Happy Thanksgiving everyone.
