Boy the peg incident must have been a big scare. See, I told you that you were a top notch caregiver!!!! Now I hope you believe it. To help manage the tube, after showering have your husband (or you if he wont do it) apply a dab of bacitracin ointment around the peg tube site and cover it with a drain sponge. This will help to keep it clean and healthy. Im one for having the patient be responsible for some of their care so I hope your hubby does some things for himself. Another tip....make sure you take a few minutes every single day for yourself. Even if it is 10 or 15 minutes to sit in a nice hot bath and relax. Even caregivers can get stressed out and their job is a very important one where you cant have a sick day. Some even take anxiety meds to help them thru the rough time. So while you are being a great caregiver, make sure to be kind to yourself and take care of you also ChristineSCC 6/15/07 L chk & by L molar both Stag I, age44 2x cispltn-35 IMRT end 9/27/07 -65 lbs in 2 mo, no caregvr Clear PET 1/08 4/4/08 recur L chk Stag I surg 4/16/08 clr marg 215 HBO dives 3/09 teeth out, trismus 7/2/09 recur, Stg IV 8/24/09 trach, ND, mandiblctmy 3wks medicly inducd coma 2 mo xtended hospital stay, ICU & burn unit PICC line IV antibx 8 mo 10/4/10, 2/14/11 reconst surg OC 3x in 3 years very happy to be alive | | |
