Sometimes people have genetic issues, but they don't always show up, they can run in the genes but skip generations. My grandfather has had issues with polyps since he was young, and none of his immediate family or grandparents had it, but his great great grandfather had it, and they say it passed through a few generations with no issues.
I am sorry you are having these issues. Hopefully the doc is right and they aren't cancer. For my grandfather, his polyps were cancerous after 30 years of getting them every 5 years or so and having them removed every time.
I will keep you in my thoughts and hope your surgery goes well and biopsys come back negative.
