My husband had his first chemo infusion on Wednesday for four hours and then left with a pump that he was to leave on for 96 hours. Thursday and Friday he felt fine. Friday night - middle of the night he became violently ill - vomiting, nausea, shaking. He had to go to the ER where they hydrated him and gave him more pain meds, sent him home at 1:00 pm, and then he went back again at 7:00 PM and was admitted and is still there. He doesn't have the pump any more. They are giving him morphine and I don't know why. They won't say other than to stop the pain. Forgive my ignorance, but does the pain come from the chemo being in the body? He is no longer vomiting so I am not sure why morphine? Does anyone have a clue why?

Is this a normal reaction? He had radiation treatment at the beginning of the year for seven weeks and never experienced this kind of reaction -- lots of fatigue, dry mouth, etc.
