Those of us whose Cancer has come back are living the nightmare that the lucky survivors only have in their bad dreams. I have had both 8 doses of
Erbitux and 5 doses of Cisplatin and they did not cause so much as a blink of my eye, let alone any damage to the optic nerve. I confess I have never heard of anyone going blind from chemo for oral cancer. Granted that blind patients might not post on OCF but the majority of posters are caregivers and it's statistically improbable (inside joke) that the caregiver would also be blind and not posting. I did a google search and all I could find was warnings about injections of methotrexate or vincristine causing not only blindness but even death. As far as I know, Neither of those are used for oral cancer chemo , which are usually platinum based : cisplatin or carboplatin or else growth factor receptor like
Erbitux All "chemo" is not the same so while it's true some chemo can cause blindness, you won't be taking those.
My advice is to take every Treatment they offer to hammer this cancer so it does not come back a third time. I'm not a doctor, it's just a fellow badluck cancer patient's opinion.
