A case worker called me today to let me know all of Mom's therapists had a meeting today and they all agreed that she passed their criteria to stay at the rehab place as needed (she had been there on a trial basis). Yea!!! They are so good with her there and she really likes the people and looks forward to the therapy. They said she was doing very well and seemed very motivated to do the work they gave her. She walked 140 feet w/her walker today! They had to set a "target" discharge date for her (not set in stone) and they chose next Wed., 7/29. Mom told them that my Dad would probably be nervous about learning how to handle her feeding tube but they think they can teach her to do it on her own. I want to learn how to do that too.

Between now and then, my sister and I will have to go to their house and get it ready (make it walker-friendly, put in a heavy duty hand rail in the bath tub and a hand-held shower head, should put a railing on the back porch steps, etc.) Very glad she'll be coming home soon.

Just thought I'd pass along the good news.

Yes... it's totally amazing!!! There are still lots of good, kind people in this world. The night of her emergency surgery was a Sunday night around 9pm. The 25-yr. old guy that works w/my sister and knows none of the rest of the family called her and volunteered (insisted) that he drive from the City of Richmond out to the county where the hospital was and pick us all up sandwiches for dinner. He got lost once on the way there and once on his way home but we all appreciated his kindness so much. What a nice young man!!! How are you? I know you are worried about your good fiend, Christine. She reminds me of a younger version of my Mom - so strong and kind. Take care - Nancy T.

Jim, you're right - Christine is definitely a tough cookie!!! It may not be an easy road, but she will work through it with support from everyone here and her own wonderful spirit. She will be just fine.
