Joined: Jan 2004 Posts: 316 | Haven't been here for a while - husband has lung cancer and I had a stint in hospital with stomach probs, we're a good pair!
Bill just started on Alimta after 2 doses of Carboplatin and Taxol and 5 doses of radiation. He was fine before the Alimta but now has a sore red mouth, food either burns or tastes different. Would the bi-carb/salt mixture help? It's a weekend here in Australia, always good timing for things to crop up!

I would think that a combo of water, baking soda and salt should help with the mouth sores. I used 2 cups water, 2 tsp baking soda and 2 tsp salt mixture and rinse several times per day. If the salt burns his mouth either cut back the amount or omit it.

Diagnosed May 2002 with Stage IV tongue cancer, two lymph nodes positive. Surgery to remove 1/2 tongue, neck dissection, 35 radiation treatments. 11/2007, diagnosed with cancer of soft palate, surgery 12/14/07, jaw split. 3/24/10, cancer on tongue behind flap, need petscan, surgery scheduled 4/16/10

�William Donald, aged 50 years and beloved husband of Meredith passed away September 16, 2009.
The Funeral service will be held in the South Chapel of the Northern Suburbs Crematorium Tuesday (September 22, 2009) .

Please give Meredith a big hug from me. I was fortunate to meet both Bill and her when I visited Sydney. Helen had tried to make it, but it just couldn't work for her. That was in Feb. 2007.
Bill was such a nice guy and they made a great couple.

Retired Dentist, 59 years old at diagnosis. SCC of the left lateral border of the tongue (Stage I). Partial glossectomy and 30 nodes removed, 4/6/05. Nodes all clear. No chemo no radiation 18 year survivor.

Since posting this. UPMC, Pittsburgh, Oct 2011 until Jan. I averaged about 2 to 3 surgeries a week there. w Can't have jaw made as bone is deteroriating steaily that is left in jaw. Mersa is to blame. Feeding tube . Had trach for 4mos. Got it out April.
