Well, seems like every time Mom has a recurrence of this stuff, she ends up in the hospital for a few weeks once her treatments are done. She's back there now going on her third week. Went in for dehydration and since she's been in there, she FINALLY got a PEG tube put in. In that process, they found two bleeding ulcers so a couple days later she got a transfusion. Then two days later they found a leakage of air in her abdomen and ended up doing emergency surgery for that to prevent septic poisoning. They said the PEG tube site had evidently leaked and then closed itself up. That was scary - she was preparing herself for the worst, telling me what color she wanted to be buried in, etc. She said the next day how grateful she was that it went so well but she also says how tired she is of it all. Her poor veins are barely holding out and the dr. says since she's leaving the hospital in a "couple of days she does not need a PICC line". She's giving the IV Specialists at the hospital a real challenge. She's down to 95 lbs. now and very weak from being in the bed so long. Yesterday they made her sit up for 2 1/2 hrs. in a.m. and in afternoon and she got up for bathroom breaks 5 times. She was worn out by the time I came for my visit yesterday evening. They are trying to send her to a rehab place or home for therapy to build her up. She still smiles and talks but will not complain - even to her own detriment. The nurses have fussed at her for that. I'm hoping the therapists will be able to build her up so she can be up and about again. Walking through her back yard would do wonders for her right now. Please keep her in your prayers. Her guardian angel has been working overtime!
