I live in Chicago - suburbs now. I do not have OC but thought I might last summer. I periodically check the board and saw your post. Dr. Vokes is head of medicine at the University of Chicago and is the section chief for hemo/onc. He got a good deal of press in 2007 - 2008 as he was the lead physician who treated Grant Achatz, the Chicago chef who had stage 4 cancer of the tongue. | | | | Joined: Dec 2007 Posts: 57 Supporting Member (50+ posts) | Supporting Member (50+ posts) Joined: Dec 2007 Posts: 57 | Rush University Medical Center is where my brother was treated by a wonderful staff and doctors. Petruzzelli, Guy Joseph, MD, PhD, MBA was his surgeon. Those doctors cared very well and explained everything thoroughly. Love that hospital. My mother was having a procedure and her doctor was called on an emergency so her procedure was postponed for half an hour. A couple of days later, a hand written note apologizing for the delay (which did not bother us one bit...we understood) came in from the surgical unit head nurse. Thought it was....thoughtful .
Brother diagnosed SCC August 2005, radiation and chemo- 2 rounds, total glossectomy Sept. 2007, passed away May 21, 2008 "Everyday is beautiful" he stated on a cold and foggy Chicago winter day.

Dr. Vokes and the staff at U of Chicago treated me. I am approaching six years since diagnosis. Feel free to email me if you have questions.
Good health, Chuck

It was not her initial treatment, I wish it had been...... Dr. Vokes and his oncol. team are WONDERFUL!!! Dr. Kerstin Stenson, Head and Neck Surgeon, director. and Dr. Daniel Haraf. They are nationally known and acclaimed for cutting edge treatment. One common goal! Get rid of it! if they can..... I do know Petrozelli at Rush is known for his expertise. I was told he is where the Physicians go for treatment. So both places we are lucky to have here close! We also went to MD Anderson.....but I think U of Chicago had it beat....overall. More personal treatment.
Jordan's Mom. Linda She fought the fight with courage, hope and dedication. Ten months of battling tongue cancer. They thought they had it after each treatment. Not to be. Christa died at 32 y/o in Nov. '07.
