For anyone with too much money, or the desire to to buy that unique gift for someone, I am bringing to auction off bits of my old life to help OCF pay its bills on eBay. Megan will be helping put up over 50 items in the next 4 months on the world's biggest auction site. Things from handmade watches, art including a Picaaso etching, pre-Columbian ceramics, books, famous people 's signatures on important or interesting documents, early aviation one of a kind memorabilia, Native American artifacts from pre 1880, and more from of life of living too high on the hog that I don't care about anymore. Please don't judge me for the kinds of things they are, but maybe something will resonate with you. There will be uber expensive watches, a check signed by one of the Wright brothers, a photo and letter to me from the first man to fly faster than the speed of sound and WW2 ace Chuck Yeager, a note from Mark Twain to a prominent politician that could have been written this year given the subject and ideas, and tons of 10 dollar books on esoteric topics, just to name a few things. I hope to raise 50k or more for the foundation (which it needs) in 6 months.... and unburden, and simplify my home and life at the same time.

First item, a Monteblac pen. Brand new never taken out of the box, retails for over four hundred dollars and opening bid is $150. Not for everyone, but out of the million people a day that buy something on eBay, someone will fall in love with it... Item number: 220446635339. Watch for curiosity, buy for the OCF, marvel at how one guy can accumulate so much stuff he doesn't need....

Perhaps some of you have things that you don't use any more and it's time to eBay them. One man's junk is another man's treasure. You don't have to give all the money to OCF you can give as little as 2% of the selling price.

Brian,
I posted a link on Twitter. Maybe one of my 'followers' will be tempted.

Great idea for a fundraiser.

Brian , you should set up an Ebay store. Maybe we could have an OCF yard sale ;-)

Hi Everyone!

I would like to add one more thing to Brian's post. For those of you that currently list items on Ebay or are interested in selling any items to benefit The Oral Cancer Foundation, you can use this link to sell under and the final sale price will go to the foundation. http://donations.ebay.com/charity/charity.jsp?NP_ID=8117
You can choose to have 10-100% of the final sale donated. If you have any questions or need help listing an item, please feel free to contact me at the office and I will be more than happy to walk you through it.

Brian -
I sell and buy on EBAY and I was just told something by one of their "experts" that might be something for you to consider. She said that sales are slower in the summers because so many are gone, vacationing or at summer retreats, homes, planning reunions, etc. If you want the FULL value of the interesting things you are offering, think about waiting with some of your items until September or so, when folks will be in the market for unique Christmas gifts of "distinction", like yours! Just a thought. Warmly, Jane : )

Thanks for the info Jane. Truth be told, with no walks or fundraisers going on right now, and the economy where it is bringing down donations from our core group of supporters who have their own lives to pay for, OCF could really use a bit of cash flow RIGHT NOW. One thing we will be doing is having all the auctions end on Sunday evenings, something that someone else passed on to me. Everyone is at work or otherwise engaged if you end them during the week mid day, and therefore you miss out on some people who might drive the prices up a bit more. Anyway, we have to pay the bills, so we are starting out with some low buck things like books, a GPS, and all just to get the ball rolling.

How are the auctions going?

When I get time, I will check if Megan was able to redeem the matching gift from Verizon for the Bethlehem walk. It matches my donation that I gave for the walk. I also can do the company volunteer donation like last year.

Sold a beautiful brand new Monteblanc pen yesterday for a few hundred bucks, small items like books on over the weekend, expensive watches start next week. It will help pay the bills in these tough donation times. Megan is getting really good at getting the auctions up. I just have to keep digging through my stuff and getting stuff photographed for her. When we get a little more experience under our belts we'll put up a really expensive piece with a reserve to see how the traffic is.

It does take time and effort and getting the things shipped out afterwards.... hoping others will want to get on the bandwagon and sell some stuff and designate OCF as beneficiary of part of the sale.

I'm trying to get Gywneth to get her husband to give us a piece of the band's memorabilia to sell.... we'll see.
