"The More You Know" spots are designed to create awareness around early health and other health concerns and the spots are aired regularly on NBC. I'd like to submit something for OCF...although, I can't seem to mince my words down to 150 characters. The deadline is JULY 3rd...tomorrow. :-) There are specific categories that The More You Know entries must meet. I was trying to work with the annual checkup category and wondering if there was a way to include a tie to OCF! The winning entry will be produced by NBC and seen by millions of people. Wouldn't that be cool to get the word out on OCF to that large of a group??? If you want to contribute and have any ideas, please add them to this thread. Any and all ideas would be appreciated. Prior to my husband's diagnosis, I had never heard of oral cancer...and, I sure didn't know that doctors and dentists should be doing this simple screen when they see you. --------- Here is the background info provided for the category of getting an annual checkup. Get your annual checkup www.nlm.nih.gov (National Institute of Health) Information -Regular health exams and tests can help find problems before they start. -They also can help find problems early, when your chances for treatment and cure are better. -Which exams and screenings you need depends on your age, health and family history, and lifestyle choices such as what you eat, how active you are, and whether you smoke. -To make the most of your next check-up, here are some things to do before you go: -Review your family health history -Find out if you are due for any general screenings or vaccinations -Write down a list of issues and questions to take with you -Make time for the important things in life - get your annual check up Margaret ---------- C/G: Husband, 48 (at time of dx) Dx 5/18/07 SCC, BOT, lymph node involvement. Here's a few. I couldn't work in OCF, but part of one of the sayings comes from an OCF awareness button.
Early detection saves lives. If youre not getting an oral cancer screening from your dentist, ask for it. The life you save can be yours.
Q: What exam takes only minutes, doesnt hurt, and can save your life? A: An oral cancer screening. Get one today.
Is a killer hiding right under your nose? See your dentist get an oral cancer screening.
Anything we can do to get the word out about this disease is worth it. Good luck!!
Susan

That would be just great.
As Susan mentioned, sayings from the buttons are great:
"Do you know how long it can take to save your life . . . 3 minutes. See your dentist, Get an oral cancer screening today."
"3 minutes, thats all it takes to get an oral cancer screening, ask for one, it can save your life! "
"The Oral Cancer Foundation says 3 minutes can save your life, get to a dentist, ask for an oral cancer screening today so there can be a tomorrow!"
Hope you got some ideas!! Let us know how it turns out.
Susan
