Hi,
When Richard's neck began to really get red, I ordered a product called RADX. Just google RADX radiation cream and you'll get all the info. The story behind the product is interesting and it worked wonderfully well. The doctors were all amazed at how great Richard's skin looked through out the treatment. The cream is expensive and comes in a small tube, but really does the job. They also have a cream that is used after treatment, but we only ordered the one to use during. The aloe vera was good right at first, but didn't help much after the first couple of weeks. Best of luck..Geri

There are many prescription creams the doc can give him. Just make sure he doesnt put it on before he goes to radiation. I used Beta-val and aquaphor. The beta val worked very well. My neck was full of open sores and I do not have any scarring at all. Make sure he puts it on thick enough to let it soak in. Do not rub it in or the skin can be further damaged.

I used Biafine which is supposed to help prevent radiation burn besdies curing it. It cannot be used on open wounds and is prescription. Ask your RO about it.

Take care,
Eileen

My neck didn't get too burned but I was given Aquaphor and it helped it perfectly.

I was given a prescription for Silver Sulfadiazine Cream and I must say it work better than the Aquaphor or anything else I used. It even works for minor kitchen burns too. GREAT stuff

I did not get too much of a burn and used aloe gel on my neck and face. The nurse gave me a sample of something else, but the aloe worked just fine.

I used a ton of Aquaphor both during and post treatment to calm things down. I never found anything that worked as well.

Aquaphor worked just great for me. I did have a couple of spots on my neck that had blood and pus oozing out of them, but in 2 weeks everything was fine. My Dr also gave me pure aloe whaich helped. Just a little goes a long way. LOL I did have to buy some new pillows.

Since posting this. UPMC, Pittsburgh, Oct 2011 until Jan. I averaged about 2 to 3 surgeries a week there. w Can't have jaw made as bone is deteroriating steaily that is left in jaw. Mersa is to blame. Feeding tube . Had trach for 4mos. Got it out April.
