Since posting this. UPMC, Pittsburgh, Oct 2011 until Jan. I averaged about 2 to 3 surgeries a week there. w Can't have jaw made as bone is deteroriating steaily that is left in jaw. Mersa is to blame. Feeding tube . Had trach for 4mos. Got it out April.

I don't know a thing about soy milk so I don't know if that solves the problem or not. Once you are clear of thrush, you can go back to eating carbohydrates without a problem. You should brush you tongue lightly with a soft tooth brush when you do your teeth. This should help remove the white stuff and also improve your taste. Your tongue is supposed to be light pink.

Joined: Sep 2006 Posts: 8,311 | I do brush my tongue and I still have a coating on it. No pain or anything, just a coating especially on the back part. It's not white but more of a cream color. I just wonder if it eventually leads to thrush?

Apr 2014 & 15, Spun for 9 straight hrs to raise $$ for YMCA's Livestrong Program. Certified Spin Instructor Jun 2014.

Joined: Sep 2008 Posts: 711 | I have pretty much the same as DavidCPA and am getting good and fed up with it. I scrape and brush my tongue, have been through 3 different prescriptions and some enzymes and can't get rid of the stuff.
David R. 65 yr old male non-smoker, light drinker, stage 3 or 4, depending on which doc you ask, scc rt. tonsil, 2 nodes, 7 weeks radiation and chemo. No surgery. Teatment ended 3/20/08. PET scan 8/08 showed no cancer.
And now, as of oct, 2010, caregiver to wife, Linda, with breast cancer.
May, 2013, Linda diagnosed with stage 3 ovarian cancer. Enuf already.

I brush so far back I gag. I am COMPLETELY healthy otherwise. Still ride my bike 100 miles and mostly with the "big boys" which means at a fast clip averaging around 20mph.
The only thing I can think of is I am not producing enough of the "right" saliva and even though I chew Biotene gum and drink plenty of water, it's just not the substitute needed to keep my tongue clear. JMO

Joined: May 2002 Posts: 2,152 | Maybe a maintenance dose of Nystatin daily would help. I use a tablespoon after lunch daily. Keeps my mouth clear most of the time. Are you certain this is thrush? My mouth usually burns when I have thrush.

Joined: Jun 2007 Posts: 5,260 | I brush my tongue all the way back, the roof of my mouth, the sides of my tongue between my cheeks and gums, between my tongue and gums, this at least 3 times a day and I do it very thoughly and hard with a soft brush, My tongue is still gray and the muscle sticks up further than anything else. Sometime the moisture that comes out is a nasty shade like dried blood. But I do what I gotta.

Joined: Jun 2007 Posts: 5,260 | My tongue is on a continous burn , Magic Mouth wash with 3 narcotics helps a lot for about an hour or so,, I should have read more and saved typos. I sure do wonder a lot about the scar tissue being the culprit for all of this. Dr says so tho. I am on fire right now from parmesan cheese pasta salad.
