He had just turned 30 when he got the diagnosis. From the first visit to his dentist to surgery, it was one month. They didn't mess around. He said he practically fell off the operating table, he was shaking so much. His was in the front of his palate, so he is missing 4 or 5 front teeth. He had no risk factors - nonsmoker, not a heavy drinker. Stories like his *do* give us hope. I know ChrisP won't be reading this for a while, but my thoughts are with her.

Wow, 8 years cancer-free! That's great. I'm glad your friend's son did so well. Good to hear that his public speaking hasn't been affected at all. I can only hope for such good results myself - am using all my positive thinking powers.[/quote]

Well, tomorrow's the day, right? I'll surely be thinking about you, and I meant it when I said to email or call if you or your caregivers want to ask anything at all.
Don't concentrate on what you may lose, focus on what you'll gain--good health, a future cancer-free, blessings galore if you keep your eyes open. You will be fine, and in the process, you will have the love and support of many.
Good luck tomorrow and in your recovery period. Call or write at any time.

I used Biafine which is the same cream I was given for radiation burns. It is a deep healing wound vitimin E cream. My doctor said any vitamin E cream would do, but when I mentioned Biafine, he seemed very pleased with my choice. It is or at least was precription 12 years ago( is it really that long) so you'll need at script.
Take care, Eileen

Had the surgery day Thursday, and they released me from the hospital yesterday (Saturday) -- boy was I ready to get out of there! The surgery went well; they got it all out. Thank you, everyone who has written, for your support and well wishes -- it made a huge difference to me to be heading into surgery with a sense that there were others out there with similar situations. I feel like I gained an entire community in such a short amount of time - this forum is awesome.
