I just introduced myself today and I got the biopsy results also. It's pre cancer, moderate dysplasia with extended margins. I've had this at least 8 mos. Stupid I know. It's gotten worse over the past few weeks, burning, numbness, pain, also increase in size. Could anyone tell me what might happen next as far as treatment? I think I would like to go to Ohio State for treatment since my neice lives there. I've been lurking here for over a week and I think that everyone here is so very brave and informed. Any information would be of help to me now. Thanks

Every time I've had that result from a biopsy, they had already cut the lesion out, so no problem until the next time. Also, none of my lesions hurt, they just didn't belong there!

Dysplasia does not always turn to cancer, but it should be followed closely, preferably by a doctor who specializes in OC and can jump right in if things take a ugly turn. An appointment at Ohio State is a wise idea. When you call, make sure to ask what they need in terms of lab or pathology reports, doctors' notes and the slides made from your biopsy so their pathologists can confirm the diagnosis.

Leslie

April 2006: Husband dx by dentist with leukoplakia on tongue. Oral surgeon's biopsy 4/28/06: Moderate dysplasia; pathology report warned of possible "skip effect." ENT's excisional biopsy (got it all) 5/31/06: SCC in situ/small bit superficially invasive. Early detection saves lives.

Another Ohio connection would be Dr. Maura Gillison at James Cancer Center.
