I had to call our insurance company today to check on some follow-up care for my husband who just finished treatment for a recurrence of tonsil cancer. The woman there who helped me immensely, Dorothy, was not available. Turns out her husband was diagnosed with cancer in November and is likely not going to survive. He's in the hospital now.

I was speechless and could have dissolved into tears. I don't believe his cancer is oral but that doesn't matter to me right now. The point is that this woman listened to me blubber and cry on the phone back in October when I was investigating our options and the days were dark, she figuratively held my hand as we navigated and confirmed where my husband would be treated, and she reassured me time and time again that it was her pleasure to help me and my husband get better and heal.

I wish I could help her. Cancer is such a beast.

Hi Loretta,
She has undoubtly helped thousands of people just like you over the years. I'm really surprised that the insurance company divulged the info on her husband. Since they are being so candid, try calling them back and ask if there is some way for you to send her a card letting her know how much she helped you and how much sad you are that she has to confront this awful disease, or whatever you want to say. And yes, cancer is a beast.

Loretta I'm sorry to hear about your helper's husband. I know exactly how that feels. In my town the town counsel (Lawyer) had BOT cancer about 2 yrs ago and I saw him on Cable tv and he was bald from chemo and my heart fell out of my chest. Did not know him personally but he is such a gentleman and a good family man. My heart breaks when you see people have to go thru this.
