Just read on line that former Monkee's Legend Peter Tork was diagnosed with Adenoid Cystic Carcinoma "usually found in the salivary glands" on his tongue. The article says surgery and radiation is planned and Tork hopes to be back performing in June.

Cancer of Tongue, SCC early Stage 1, Dx 3/13/07, partial glossectomy 4/14/07 found no residual carcinoma and a granular cell tumor with pseudo epitheliomatous hyperplasia.

according to wiki the surgery was done yesterday March 4th in New York City. a preliminary biopsy had shown no spread outside the tongue and Tork claims his prognosis is "good" Tork is 67 years old almost he same age as our PeteD

the general media never quite gets it right. there are no salivary glands on your tongue....

I believe it is more of a gramatical than factual error. You of course are right, but in this case it appears to be an inartful initial posting not the media. All the newspaper stories I googled explictly noted that his cancer was a rare form of tongue caoncer since it is "usually found on salivary glands" (and not on the tongue) I was somewhat distracted today by joining the PEG majority on OCF so did not notice the incorrect implications in the original post so I only corrected the surgery date in my post. You are a sharp eyed editor.

Well, whatever it is, I'm sure that we all wish him a successful journey through treatments, and a rapid return to a normal life, where he can reveal in his own words what he had and what he went through. While I wish no-one new to join this band of brothers and sisters, when someone of some celebrity joins us, they have the opportunity to raise awareness.... hopefully in the process getting the story and and causes out in the media in a correct manner that helps the public understand the dangers of it all, and how to hopefully sidestep what we have all been through.
