My father is a healthy 65 year old that just got diagnosed with Squamous cell cancer in right submental and submandibular lymph nodes (done by fine needle aspiration). The primary focus is thought to be right dental region. I am looking for a good center/ team in MD for further management. Any opinions about Dr. Ord (U. of Md), Hopkins or Lombardi? I have lurked on the boards since this AM and thank you for this resource and support. Best.
Only daughter to 65 y.o non smker Dad with 3.2 cm Rt lower alveolar rim SCC with 4 level 1 lymph nodes, T4N2bM0- IVb. Had right mandibulectomy and neck dissection with fibular flap reconstruction 3/2009. Recieving IMRT, planned 34 Tx and Cisplatin 3 cycles since mid May 2009.

Joined: Mar 2008 Posts: 67 | If I lived there I would go to Johns Hopkins for sure. Not sure which one for the best second opinion. My case was reviewed by the full tumor board at both Stanford and UCSF so I felt very confident that I had a complete, thorough and solid second opinion. I ended up getting all of the treatment at Stanford but I was happpy to have been evaluated at two different CCC's. Good luck with it all and hang in there. Joined: Feb 2008 Posts: 38 | I am sorry that your family has to face this. My cancer was treated successfully at Hopkins, and I recommend them without reservation. The team is compassionate and patient, as well, which is so important when we have many questions. Good luck to your dad, and welcome to this amazing OCF. Non-smoker non-drinker, 50 when diagnosed 9/11/06 stage IV scc of oropharnyx, malignant lymph nodes both sides of neck. Cause=HPV16. Daily chemo & daily IMRT for 7 weeks. In 2 clinical trials at Johns Hopkins, good results. Peg tube out March 07. Update September 2014: gratefully in good health!
