Hi All,

Finished treatment 2 years and 13 days ago. (SCC base of tongue, 2 nodes, 6-8 chemo with cisplatin, 5FU, taxol & somehting 3lse, 35 Rad treatments, and ethyol) Just saw my RadOnc and am still clear. According to him, 90% of re-occurances happen within the first two years. I am very lucky. I have little or no xerostomia, my neck scar barely shows, and I am starting to have to watch my weight.

I have not posted in a while, but watch the site regularly. I want to thank all who have helped me and wish all who are starting this ugly journey, the best of luck. Fight hard, I am proof that this thing can be conquered. cool

SCC, base of tongue, 2 lymph nodes, stage 3/4. 35 X's IMRT radiation, chemo: Cisplatin x 2, 5FU x2, & Taxol x2. Hooray, after 3 years I'm in still in remission.

To David CPA,

I also am a CPA. I have little if any dry mouth. I was able to tolerate the ehtyol (sp) injections and I think they helped protect my glands. I did have IMRT radiation. 35 times. Still have my mask. I hate but cherish it becasue it was so instrumental in saving my life. Taste has totally returned. I was an agressive patient. Started working out two weeks after my neck disection. It did take over 18 months to gain most of my energy back. It took a long time to be able to concentrate on any one problem for a length of time. I take levethroid as my thyroid was fried. I feel I am still heeling, but am about at 95% now.

Happy Holidays to all of us and espescially to our care givers.

To Steve CPA,

I was born and raised in Richmond, Va. Still licensed there. Have relatives from Winston Salem and spent many a summer in the Tarheel State.

I am only 4 months out and am trying to compare myself to someone similar which you appear to be except I only had Cis and 35 IMRT's.

I have pretty good taste, high freq hearing loss, dry mouth pretty much unchanged from end of Tx, working 9 to 7:30 but tired by then, mentally 100% for new clients and current work but finding some difficulty recalling previous client's work until I review the file, physically not up to pre Tx stamina mainly due to dry mouth making riding my bike an unpleasant experience. The dry mouth thing is really the only complaint I have.

Since you are 2 yrs out, do you remember what you were like appx 4 months out and how do I compare ?

Any comments would be appreciated.

David

Hi David,

Sent you a private email. You sound like you are doing better than I as far as stamina goes.
