After reading another post about color of Ribbon. I was wondering Is there one for OCF?

If there is NO Symbol for OCF, maybe it is time to come up with one. Something that will stand out. It does not have to be a ribbon.

Maybe you all have talked about this long ago. I just thought I would throw it out there to see what is what on the idea.

Thanks,
take care
Diane

The Oral Cancer Foundation does not have a ribbon color. SPOHNC came up with that one several years ago, and I have already posted my opinions here several times about ribbons and the thousands of unknown varieties that already existed out there. So that ribbon color combination was cooked up by Nancy at their organization, and not OCF. They call it an oral cancer ribbion (not one dedicated to their organization), but I don't know of any head and neck or oral cancer organizations that have adopted her idea. Likek I said in previous posts there are over 2700 disease, cause etc. registed ribbon colors out there, and I think that putting any effort into this idea is a waste of time and money. No one is going to know what it is, and the impact of wearing it will be nil.

Thanks Brian,

Now I do not feel so stupid !! Yes, I can understand your point of the Ribbon.

I know that people love wearing pins that Represent things. They wear them like charms. Just wanted to throw the idea out there.

If I dream up a good one for you to consider I will let you know. OK? That is how things get started and catch on. Never say Never

take care...
Diane

Can I just say that as a breast cancer survivor the whole pink ribbon thing drives me crazy? It is incredibly commercialized, to the point of meaninglessness, and was not dreamed up by a nonprofit agency related to breast cancer but by a cosmetics manufacturer (I think it was L'Oreal) to publicize that when you bought their product they gave some of the profits to breast cancer research. It is STILL being used that way--to sell products--as much or more than to get money that supports programs related to breast cancer. They even have breast cancer pink and white M&Ms this year! Gag me!

And don't even get me started on the annoying symbolism of the color--a color that is normally associated with infant girls--to recognize the courage of women who are strong adults fighting for their lives against a nasty diease.

OK. I'm done ranting. Sorry.

Sorry, Diane, that rant of mine above really was about the commercialism of the pink ribbon for breast cancer awareness. It has nothing to do with whether we could come up with something for this site (which would never BE commercially exploited the same way since oral cancer is so much more rare).

Don't quit putting out your ideas Diane... we need to create awareness, and everything is open to consideration at this point. Wrist bands and ribbons have been done to death. If we do something we need to really be different and noticible. I've worked with lots of ad agencies in my lifetime. You sit down and brainstorm with 20 people and you come up with 50 ideas... most end up in the round file and are tossed. But eventually a brainstorm occurs (like the yellow wrist bands) and it's a killer idea. If you don't toss them out there, we will miss the one gem in the mix. If you don't want to float them in public, and suffer the ravages of everyone's opinion, send them to me by email. I am open to hearing it all. If I think it's been overdone or whatever, I'lll say so. But I can't dream up everything... there are lots of creative people out there.

Ok, Brian I will not throw in the towel...

No, I am not thin skinned, just did not know the history on this stuff. I beleive there is something that we can come up with that will stand out and you will be proud of.

Thanks,
Take care,
Diane
