Joined: May 2008 Posts: 551 | My last radiation was back in August, and while the few random hairs on my chin seem to be growing again (yea, don't ask!) I'm still waiting for the hair on nape of my neck to come back. There is some thin, wispy stuff but no signs of real regrowth. What has been everyone's experience with this? How long before I can see real hair back there again?

Joined: Feb 2007 Posts: 790 | the hair on the back of my head feel out from about midway to the nape of my neck a few weeks after radiation. THat was june of 07- a year later this summer it was about 3/4 back and now its almost
the length of my long hair and I can put it up in a pony tail. I have very curly think hair though. ITs a pain s sorry-- it depends how fast your hair grows.... K

Joined: Sep 2006 Posts: 8,311 | I think everyone's hair there falls out due to the exit radiation. Mine slowly grew back and it took well over a year before my barber said it was back to normal.

Jun 07, back to riding my bike 100 miles a wk. Now doing 12 Spin classes and 60 outdoor miles per wk. Nov 13 completed Hilly Century ride for Cancer, 104 miles, 1st Place in my age group. Apr 2014 & 15, Spun for 9 straight hrs to raise $$ for YMCA's Livestrong Program. Certified Spin Instructor Jun 2014.

Mine is just starting to grow back. I got those whispie things and then a few weeks later it all kind of started coming back in. It's maybe a half inch now. I have a couple areas where it's still kind of thin though.

Joined: May 2008 Posts: 551 | Ooo, that's good to hear Stephanie. My hair stylist has done a nice job leaving the back long to cover, so I doubt anyone can tell what's going on back there. It'd just be nice to have at least one part of me return to 'normal,' yanno?

Dianne..treatment at cc at Victoria Hospital, London, Ontario...insulin dependant, Surgery Sept 8/08 Tracheotomy,composite resection and bilateral neck dissection, left radial forearm free flap... T2N0 squamous cell carcinoma. No radiation A little over 2 yrs clear YAY

Joined: Jul 2008 Posts: 228 | Yep, I totally know! I've let my hair grow some since I've lost some of it and I've had it cut once since finishing treatment. I'm hoping the next time I go she'll be able to trim some of the new hair (my hair is kind of short).

It does take a while for it to come back. Mine took a couple months before the stubbies started growing in. Now its about 2" and thats 14 months since rad ended. It will come back but takes a long time.
