Today i had my interview with the research people at St james Hospital, and the good news is that they are going to launch a mentoring scheme for Oral cancer patients, that will see them through all the phases of their treatment and also the post TX period. The best news was that they are considering the possibility of producing a document telling new patients about available help on the internet, specifically OCF,and MCF.They seemed very impressed with the information i gave them about the sites and the fact that at times they were my only support,so i feel very positive about the outcome of this project.
I have no doubt that if this comes about, that every one will get behind this scheme 100%,and extend a helping hand to all new members who find their way to us through this scheme.

Liz:

Thats really exciting news. You are such a great spokesperson for OC. Its so true that OC patients need alot of help and not just during tx. You know first hand what they go thru and also how hard it is for the caregivers too. Its something all hospitals should have for all cancer patients, hope it catches on elsewhere.

You know how compassionate and knowledgable the memebers here are. As always, the 'regulars' who have already gone thru the battle will extend a helping hand to the new ones. OCF members are always ready to assist someone who is struggling.

Keep us posted on the details.

Well done lady..
Am I right that Macmillan and cancer-backup have merged their resources, if so that will also be a good way to get all of cancer-backup's excellent publications some publicity..
our local hospital believes in a 'need to know' procedure, OH and very often that 'need to know' is not until it's a done deal.
Sunshine.. love and hugs

Liz- That's a wonderful accomplishment. I wish I had known about this site way earlier than I did. I don't think I would have taken the doctors' words as law if I had. I only started being really informed after I found the wonderful people here. I felt so much more in control when I knew the right questions to ask. What you have done will help many people and have far reaching GOOD consequences.
