If so how soon after your treatment were you released to travel home? I'm currently having my treatment done in San Antonio TX but my home is in GA.

I had surgery (partial glossectomy and left neck dissection) on Thursday, May 12th and traveled home by air on Monday afternoon, May 15 after having my drain removed. It was fine.

Both surgeries were extensive. The most nerve wracking part for us was being so far away from his Doctor after we got home. But I got direct line phone #'s to call if we got in trouble. You should too. Amy

I stayed in Boston from Mon-Fri and then travelled home on Friday afternoons and returned Sunday night (about 4 hours each direction). I found that once the radiation really got to me, I didn't have the strength to travel on the weekends and so, stayed put. The day the treatments were over, I travelled home and stayed there recuperating for a good long time.
I think you'll have to assess how you're feeling and also cosult with you doctors. You don't mention what your treatment regimen is and that will certainly be a factor. From many posts on the board, I think it fair to say that surgical procedures are not as trying as radiation or radiation and chemo. Hope you're able to travel soon. - Sheldon

My treatments are 33 IMRT and 3 Chemo (cisplat). I guess I was wondering if anyone has been down the same path? And how they handled it/how soon they traveled home and howthey managed the side effects once the got home.
