Someone very close to me has been diagnosed with stage 3 oral cancer and is undergoing surgery in a few days of the tongue and neck. I will refer to this person as X. I want to provide as much support as I can to X and would really appreciate all of your valuable suggestions. I really would like to know more about the kind of diet and food that would be helpful after surgery. Thanks again.

Smoothies with protein powder ensure I loved pureed broccoli soup and butternut squash soup too. Alo make sure they have lots of notepads to write on in the hospital and distractions. I had a portable dvd player that helped me to not think abotu stuff so much.

Will be thinking of your friend and praying for a sucessful outcome. K

From my experience and I absolutely hated the feeding tube nutrition kinda has to be up to the individual how they can handle it but yeah smoothies are gooood stuff especially after surgery...myself it was mashed potatoes or rather totally whipped potatoes or foods put in a blender... I find my mouth is healing really quickly so it is a new experience everyday with nutrition...depends on what the doctor recommends too the liquid diet first then thicker and so forth but ususally up to the patient...
