The mets to her lymph node is definitely SCC, as stated on the report. Can SCC originate in the lung? I thought SCC was particular to head and neck cancer. Please explain.....

While not that common, my first bout was an unknown primary with mets to one lymph in neck.
Take care, Eileen

Typically SCC in the lung is a distant metastesis from the primary, which was probably the BOT.
As you read most H&N cancers originate in the throat and metastesize to the other parts of the respiratory system and other organs, liver, brain, kidneys, as well.
Was she a smoker? She may have a different cancer in the lung. Do they have a positive biopsy for SCC?
Is she being Dx'd at a CCC? If not, I would find one pronto.
I am sorry to hear about this new development.

I've been reading nothing but oral cancer material for my Aunt Ro for the last three years and I took it for granted that the SCC mets in her lymph node was from an oral primary. SCC of the lung is one of the three subtypes of Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer (NSCLC). We'll find out more when she returns from her doctor visit. Also, she has lots more testing ahead of her.
