The pretreatment for radiation, ethyol, caused quite a dip in Neil's pressure and it has been low ever since. He had his last rad in December but I know some chemo does it also. The cisplatin seemed to be the worst for that. He is almost back to normal now-blood pressure anyway. I have always had low pressure even back in the pregnant days and still get dizzy at times. I was told to get in extra water to help with that. Sue

I do get dizzy if I stand up suddenly and I'm sure it's the BP. But the sense of balance thing isn't about dizziness, it's really just like being less quick at catching yourself if you get a little off balance or something. And also not beoing quite so surefooted on stairs.
This past weekend I went for a hike with my husband on a trail that was quite rocky and steep in a few places. Places where you really had to be careful where you put your feet--as in there was only one spot- and then really hop up a few feet to get up on the way up, which I managed alright, but then on the way down I had to get on my butt and slide down those parts--there was no way I had the balance to take a big step down to a small slippery ledge--though most other people seemed to manage.
I'm glad to know this isn't just me! It makes sense to me that with all the damage cisplatin can cause to the nervous system, this might be a common longterm effect.

I most often experience it when getting up from a chair etc. It usually happens 2-3 times per day and has not caused me to pass out. For the record, however, during treatment I did pass out once and went down hard. I have not brought this periodic light headedness to the attention of my doctors because I was thinking it was something that would pass as I continued to exercise, get stronger and generally recover from treatment.
Has anyone had the dizziness symptom and then had it disappear with time?

WOW, Im amazed at the similarities in long term side effects of chemo/radiation that are mentioned. Aches, dizziness, low blood pressure and being off balance and some of us are over 1 year post treatment. Thanks Jeff for asking your question. It makes me feel alot better knowing Im not the only one with lingering side effects.

His BP runs 90-108 over 60 so not as low as yours. Most people would envy that reading but I wonder if it is contributory. He sometimes has the dizzy spell getting out of the car...in other words..rising from a lower position. I know he gets it when we work outside and he has been stooped for a period of time.
Bill drinks plenty of fluids and is eating very well so I don't think that is the problem although we have not had blood work run in a while. It will soon be time to check his thyroid.

Looking back I am surprised that Moffitt didn't DEMAND I get a Peg as they basically left it up to me with my promise that I would not loose any weight. Little did I know that was a nearly impossible promise to make.
